Treat a Minor Wound – What to Do…

It’s important to act quickly!

So, let’s treat:

Hygiene is always the number one priority for treating all minor wounds. An antiseptic solution should be used and diluted in accordance with instructions. If you don`t have an antiseptic solution, then use saline.

• Clean the wound from the centre of the wound outwards, and then clean the surrounding area.
• Reassure the patient and constantly observe; making note of how they are feeling.
• Non-adherent dressings are best used for grazes, wounds where the blood is not flowing, or burns.
• Always secure the dressing with a conforming bandage or paper tape.
• Be gentle with the patient, observe.

Important considerations:

Some older people may take Aspirin or other medicines to thin their blood, This can mean they bleed more.

Wound dressings are best for wounds where the blood is flowing. They consist of a combined dressing with conforming bandage. Always apply directly on wound and secure firmly.

Triangular Bandages are in every First Aid Kit. Their primary function is as an arm sling, however, they are also great for padding or strapping legs or arms.

Heavy Crepe 10cm Bandages, are the size of the fist. They can be applied at the correct pressure without creasing, are perfect for strapping.
