A stroke happens when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted. Blood is carried to the brain by blood vessels called arteries. Blood may be interrupted or stop moving through an artery because the artery is blocked (ischaemic stroke) or bursts (hemorrhagic stroke). This is called a stroke.
This is a life-threatening emergency.
There are some key ways to identify a stroke.
Face: Does the person have any facial droop (ask the person to smile)
Arms: Is the patient able to lift both of their arms to an equal height?
Speech: Is the patient talking how they normally do?
Time: Time to call an ambulance! can you think of the last time this person was acting normal? Advise the operator.
